What’s the Issue?
Stuffed animals are another source of toxins in your home that can be potentially harmful to your family. In 2006 there was a study done that found pesticides in stuffed animals such as DDT and Chlorate. DDT and Chlorate are both considered possible carcinogens and endocrine disruptors.
These harmful pesticides can leach into your child’s skin as they cuddle so innocently with their stuffed animal! I know this can be super disappointing to parents, but it is something to really consider having your child sleep with or soak in the toxins in these animals.
Because of the fibers these are made from, you can’t simply wash the toxins away. Polyester fibers continue to break down over time causing them to continually off gas and leach.
Another harmful ingredient included in the makeup of stuffed animals is polyester. Unfortunately polyester is ubiquitous these days; it’s found everywhere. Polyester is derived from petroleum which has a laundry list of side effects.
Petroleum has been linked to cancer and it’s known as being an endocrine disruptor. It has also been linked to autoimmune diseases. We try so hard to keep pesticides and endocrine disruptors out of our home and to do the best for our children. Sadly, their favorite teddy bear can be emitting toxins into their bedroom.

While I wish their filling was something other than corn, it’s still a cleaner option than Polyester.
