Low Toxic Stuffed Animals
Do you have toxins hiding in your child’s bedroom? That cute, cuddly teddy bear you give your child each night when they sleep may not be the best for them. Most stuffed animals are loaded with pesticides and their stuffing is made from polyester. Stuffed animals are a source of toxins in your child’s life that can be easily eliminated.
What’s the Issue?
Stuffed animals are another source of toxins in your home that can be potentially harmful to your family. In 2006 there was a study done that found pesticides in stuffed animals such as DDT and Chlorate. DDT and Chlorate are both considered possible carcinogens and endocrine disruptors.
These harmful pesticides can leach into your child’s skin as they cuddle so innocently with their stuffed animal! I know this can be super disappointing to parents, but it is something to really consider having your child sleep with or soak in the toxins in these animals.
Another harmful ingredient included in the makeup of stuffed animals is polyester. Unfortunately polyester is ubiquitous these days; it’s found everywhere. Polyester is derived from petroleum which has a laundry list of side effects.
Petroleum has been linked to cancer and it’s known as being an endocrine disruptor. It has also been linked to autoimmune diseases. We try so hard to keep pesticides and endocrine disruptors out of our home and to do the best for our children. Sadly, their favorite teddy bear can be emitting toxins into their bedroom.
Fortunately, there are companies who see the value in producing low toxin stuffed animals for your children. When searching for the perfect stuffed animal for your children, you want to make sure that it’s made from an organic material.
Companies that I love
Senger Naturwelt
is a fantastic company from Germany. Each stuffed animal is made with organic cotton and stuffed with wool instead of toxic polyester. It’s safe for your family and does not emit harmful toxins into your home. They have a wide variety of animals that your children are sure to love! You can find them at a few different shops in the US - here is one.
Under The Nile
is another superb company that provides baby toys made with 100% Organic Egyptian Cotton. They have adorable dress up baby dolls that aid in imaginary play. They too are organic inside and out which I love! Find them here.
is GOTS certified and provides parents with an ease of mind when purchasing stuffed animals for their child. Bear for Humanity has an assortment of realistic looking stuffed animals that are guilt free. They even have a “build-your-own-box” option to create the perfect bundle. While I wish their filling was something other than corn, it’s still a cleaner option than Polyester.
Create a healthier environment for your child by eliminating toxic stuffed animals from their room. Easily swap out their toys just in time for Christmas. Happy shopping, friends!
